During a recent collaboration the artists Luise Schröder and Chedly Atallah worked together looking at personal and collective memory through the material of stone. If stone represents time, hardness, and solidity, it also stands for the crumbling of stories, witnessing the past, and is the raw material for a multitude of possible futures. During a residency at the Ateliers Médicis in 2022, the artists devised a project that is a metaphor for the layers of history in Clichy-sous-Bois/Montfermeil.Memories are intertwined: of destruction, renovation, resistance, gentrification, extensions of fictitious and real territories…
The first part of Pierres sans répit (engl. Unrelenting stones) was presented as an outdoor exhibition in public space on the palissade of the future metro station named Clichy-Montfermeil, on the facade of Ateliers Médicis and in the Musée Carnavalet / Paris History Museum. From the outskirts to the center, and vice versa, Pierres sans répit - part 1 weaves a strong link between the capital and the suburbs.

The intervention was produced due to a residency at Ateliers Médicis and the support of the Société du Grand Paris. It was carried out with the help of the Archives of the city of Clichy-sous-Bois, the Archives of the city of Montfermeil, L'établissement public foncier d'Île-de-France, Grands travaux de Marseille, Rihab Abdessalem Kanouni & Moslem Mishmastnehi.
